Henry Gillam Spruill, 7, of Windsor, died Friday, April 10, 2009. Henry was born May 28, 2001.

Henry attended Lawrence Academy in Merry Hill. He was short-stop for Bill Clough Ford of Cashie Youth League and half-back for Bertie Bashers of Bertie County Recreation Department.

Henry was preceded in death by his great-grandmothers, Leigh Reilley Jarman and Nancy Taylor Spruill; his great-grandfathers, Carlton Goodchild Gillam, Fontaine Graham Jarman, Jr., William Alexander Pierce, Jr., and Henry Bazemore Spruill.

Henry is survived by his parents, Lucy Purifoy Pierce Spruill and Wayland Outlaw Spruill; four sisters, Isabella Purefoy Spruill, Lucy Outlaw Spruill, Sally Pierce Spruill and Sarah Hunter Spruill; his grandparents, Sally Jarman Pierce and William Alexander Pierce III of Roanoke Rapids, Nancy Gillam Spruill and Hunter Wayland Spruill of Windsor; his aunts, Sally Pierce Corpening and her husband, Charles Albert Corpening, and their sons Pierce and Allen of Winston-Salem, Brimage Spruill Silver and her husband, Winston Beau Wood Silver, of Nags Head; his great-grandmothers, Araminta Sawyer Pierce Blowe of Weldon and Lucy Outlaw Gillam of Windsor; and his step great-grandmother Brenda Haskins Jarmen.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services of Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home in Windsor.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 15 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Windsor with the Reverend Joseph Wheeler Cooper and the Reverend Barbara Chaffee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
